Congrats to New Black Belts

Well done to Sarah Hilton and Dave Semple our first two fully fledged PMA Black Belts who graded last Saturday 27th September at Doncaster.

They had a very hard session on the warmest day we've had for months but both did themselves and the club credit. Dave was awarded Honours for his efforts, mainly to being beaten up in the Self Protection element!

well done Sarah and Dave!

Future of Tae Kwon-Do at Twin Dragon Martial Arts

For those of you who train at the Tae Kwon-Do class you will have noticed a lack of numbers.

Mr Bruce and Landreth-Smith have debated for some time about the direction of Twin Dragon's martial art coaching and it has only been through loyalty to the art they both obtained their first black belts in that they have continued to teach it.

However, modern market forces in the martial arts means that many traditional clubs of all styles are struggling to justify themselves compared to the modern systems such as kickboxing, combatives (real self defence) and MMA. This is compounded at Twin Dragon by the fact that it offers the Premier classes which reflect modern trends in demand and coaching.

Currently there are only 4 regular members training at the public TKD class, 2 of whom are existing black belts and two more who are due to obtain their black belts in December. As such the class is not finacially viable and is being subsidsed by other more popular classes. With recent costs in the world money markets, Twin Dragon cannot afford to run classes that make a loss.

Therefore it is with regret that the decision has been made that once these two candidates are succesful in grading for balck belt then the Twin Dragon public Tae Kwon-Do class will shut down. This is almost certainly in December and so 2008 will see the last Tae kwon-Do class at Paxton

The Leeds University club however will continue as before as there is sufficient interest and numbers to make that a successful and viaable club. Anyone wishing to continue to train in TKD can join in with the Uni students.

If any member has any qustions about this decision please email twindragonmartialarts@yahoo.co.uk or talk to one of the instructors.
